quelle évolution ?
L’UIP existe depuis plus de 60 ans.
Elle a agrégé autour d’elle au fil des ans plus de 50 pays du monde entier.
Ses congrès ont toujours remporté un vif succès et ont été pour beaucoup dans la diffusion de l’information sur notre spécialité.
Les échanges internationaux nous ont permis de progresser bien plus vite que si nous étions restés isolés les uns des autres.
En effet, les techniques et les pratiques différentes sont un vaste champ d’expérience (au sens de connaissance) dans lequel on peut puiser ce qu’il y a de meilleur.
Depuis quelques années, l’UIP a été la source de nombreux documents de consensus basés sur des preuves, démontrant ainsi sa maturité et son rôle irremplaçable dans la médecine mondiale du XXIe siècle.
Il y avait bien eu un congrès du chapitre nord-américain de l’UIP à San Diego il y a juste 10 ans, organisé par Mitchel Goldman et Robert Weiss, mais il n’y avait pas encore eu de congrès mondial de l’UIP aux États-Unis.
Ce sera chose faite en septembre 2013 et c’est un évènement qui nous fascine déjà.
L’American College of Phlebology (ACP) sera la société hôte et Nick Morrison de Phoenix, Arizona, sera le président/organisateur du congrès.
La phlébologie aux USA, c’est l’ACP.
Société créée il y a un quart de siècle par des phlébologues américains enthousiastes qui avaient été élevés à l’école de Raymond Tournay.
L’ACP compte aujourd’hui plus de 2000 membres et fait preuve d’une activité complète dans la spécialité, organisant des congrès très denses, entretenant la formation continue de ses membres, leur apportant des services professionnels et allant jusqu’au lobbying institutionnel afin de garantir l’exercice de la profession.
Le congrès UIP de Boston sera aussi le congrès annuel national de l’ACP, auquel on compte en général un millier de participants.
On peut donc pronostiquer une large fréquentation, peut-être supérieure à celle de Monaco en 2009.
En tout état de cause, le comité organisateur et le comité scientifique auront préparé sans faille ce congrès très attendu.
La sélection de la ville a été longuement discutée et évaluée.
Ce choix s’est porté sur Boston pour de nombreuses raisons : sur la côte est des États-Unis, elle est plus proche de l’Europe de 4 heures ; c’est aussi une ville dont le centre – qui est aussi un centre historique à explorer – reste de dimensions humaines, propice à la visite pédestre ; c’est enfin une ville touristique pleine de ressources, au centre d’une région qui ne l’est pas moins.
Le programme scientifique est très complet et présentera des séances de formats très divers : ateliers, discussions avec les experts, communications invitées et communications libres, lectures magistrales, posters.
Les membres connus et respectés du comité scientifique sont garants du fait que tous les aspects de la phlébologie seront traités : varices, insuffisance veineuse chronique, mais aussi maladie thromboembolique, malformations et maladies lymphatiques.
Comme toujours lors des congrès mondiaux de l’UIP, il sera possible de faire le point sur les progrès des 4 dernières années, ainsi que de s’informer sur les plus récentes découvertes et progrès techniques.
Ce sera une occasion unique de rencontrer des phlébologues du monde entier et de renouer ou d’établir de nouvelles relations amicales et professionnelles.
Il ne s’agit pas seulement d’une réunion scientifique mais de l’assemblée de la famille phlébologique.
Nous souhaitons plein succès à cette manifestation exceptionnelle qui devrait rendre hommage au rôle joué par l’ACP dans les progrès de la phlébologie, aux États-Unis mais aussi dans le monde.

Its development between the 2009 Monaco Congress
and the 2013 Boston Congress.
The IUP was founded more than 60 years ago.
Over the years, members joined it from more than fifty countries all over the world.
Its conferences have always been hugely successful and have done much to circulate information about our specialism.
International exchanges of information have enabled us to make much faster progress than if we had remained isolated from each other.
Indeed, the various techniques and practices cover a huge field of experience (i.e. knowledge) from which we can learn the very best practice.
For several years the IUP has been the source of numerous evidencebased consensus documents, demonstrating its maturity and its unquestionable importance in world medicine in the twenty-first century.
A North American IUP conference was held in San Diego just 10 years ago, organized by Mitchel Goldman and Robert Weiss, but no world congress of the IUP has ever been held in the United States.
That situation will change in September 2013 and it’s going to be a really exciting event.
The American College of Phlebology (ACP) will be the host organization and Nick Morrison of Phoenix, Arizona will be the Congress President/ Organizer.
In the USA, Phlebology is the ACP.
The organization was set up a quarter of a century ago by enthusiastic American phlebologists who received their training at the Raymond Tournay school.
Today, the ACP has more than 2,000 members and its activities cover the whole range of the specialty, from organizing very intensive conferences, supporting continuing education and training for its members, providing them with professional services, and even engaging in institutional lobbying to guarantee the exercise of the profession.
The IUP Congress in Boston will also be the annual national conference of the ACP, usually attended by around one thousand delegates.
So a large attendance can be predicted, probably greater than that for Monaco in 2009.
At any event, the organizing committee and the scientific committee will have prepared a brilliant program for this long-awaited event.
The choice of city was discussed and assessed at length.
The choice fell on Boston for a number of reasons: as a city on the East Coast of the United States, it is only four hours away from Europe; it is also a city whose center one with a great history that deserves to be explored—is of human dimensions, one that is just right for a walking tour. Boston is a tourist city, with great resources, and lies at the center of a flourishing region.
The scientific program is very full and the sessions will take a number of diverse formats—workshops, discussions with experts, invited lectures and free talks, master classes, handouts, and written materials.
The well-known and respected members of the Scientific Committee guarantee that every aspect of phlebology will be tackled—varices, chronic venous insufficiency, thrombo-embolisms, malformations, and lymphatic diseases.
As is always the case at IUP congresses, there will be a review of the progress made during the past four years, as well as information about the most recent discoveries and technical advances.
This will be a unique occasion for meeting phlebologists from all over the world, making new connections, and renewing old friendships and professional relationships.
This will not just be a scientific meeting but a gathering of the phlebology family.
We wish this exceptional event every success, at which homage will be paid to the role played by the ACP in its contribution to phlebology in the United States and throughout the world.
